But how are lenses (especially high-end lenses) manufactured, assembled and inspected? In this paper, combined with practical work experience, taking a medium magnification microscope objective lens as an example, the optical lens custom manufacturer briefly talks about the optical cold processing, structural design and assembly process of the lens.

Customized optical cold processing of optical lenses: Many friends who have not been in the optical cold processing workshop are very curious about the processing technology of optical lenses. In fact, optical cold processing is to cut, roughly grind, finely grind, polish, and grind the optical glass raw material shaped like a stone. A complete set of processes such as edge, coating, gluing, etc., finally obtains the optical lens with the required precision in the drawing.

The specific optical cold working process will not be described in detail here. Here we will focus on the general machining accuracy of the current domestic optical lenses:

The outer diameter tolerance is about -0.02~0;
Center thickness tolerance: about ±0.02;
Eccentricity: about 2′;
Aperture: about 3;
Local aperture: about 0.3;
Reflectivity after anti-reflection coating: less than about 0.5%.
Note: The labeling of optical lenses requires strict tolerance analysis. The general machining accuracy given here is only for reference. In addition, it should be noted that the tighter the tolerance is marked, the more difficult the processing will be, and the higher the scrap rate of the workshop will be. For the lens that needs to consider the cost, this needs to be carefully weighed in combination with the results of the tolerance analysis.
